Match Report - Brentford 0 Portsmouth 1

It was a weakened side that travelled to Griffin Park - Georgi Kinkladze was in the midfield, although we understand not to earn a contract, but in order to gain match fitness, while much-maligned keeper Yoshi Kawaguchi was handed a rare start.

The Japanese goalie had his work cut out for him from the start, with Stephen Hunt firing a long range shot goalwards. There were plenty of other warning signs for Portsmouth as The Bees, tipped for relegation from Division Two this season, rained shots upon the Portsmouth goal in the blistering heat.

Yet Portsmouth rode their luck and had Deon Burton kept his feet, might have given his side the lead before the interval.

The second half continued with the Portsmouth defence under pressure, but Portsmouth dealt with the threats well and Pericard gave the Blues the lead just after the hour with a header after Paul Smith parried Shaun Cooper's cross.

Other trialists to play in the win were Rossen Kirilov of Liteks Lovech, and Jocelyn Blanchard in midfield.

The news wasn't so encouraging for the reserves as Lee Bradbury was sent off in a 3-0 defeat at Andover, but they have a chance to make amends as they take on Newbury tonight.
