Jack Whatmough has been loaned to Havant & Waterlooville until the end of January in a bid to get him some match practice after his knee injury sustained against Cheltenham last March.
It's a move that makes perfect sense for the 19-year-old as he bids to break back into the first team this season, although with Matt Clarke, Adam Webster and soon-to-be-fit Christian Burgess also vying for those positions it's difficult to see Jack making an appearance for Pompey this season.
The Hawks could certainly use his defensive qualities, however, given the amount of goals they have leaked which has seen them hover perilously above the Conference South relegation zone.
In other news, Pompey have been linked with moves for Notts County midfielder Liam Noble and Swindon striker Matt Smith.
The former is a midfielder with good technical ability and an eye for goal, but is hot-headed and usually gets a red card or two every season. The latter has been on loan at Barnsley this season and failed to score, but the target man did net 18 goals in his parent club's previous season when they reached the play-off final.
Expect more movement in the transfer window as the month progresses.
