Whatmough Extends Contract

Jack Whatmough has signed a contract extension with Portsmouth Football Club.

The 17-year-old signed a three-year-professional-deal in August last year but has now put pen to paper on a new contract that would theoretically keep him at Pompey until at least 2017, with a huge bump up in his salary no doubt, given how important he seems to be in the club's future.

Whilst this season has been dire in general, the one positive to take from it is the emergence of Jack who made his professional debut at home to Southend last November when Andy Awford first took charge of first-team affairs when Guy Whittingham was sacked.

His ability is clear for all to see. He is cultured with the ball at his feet and he can win the long balls in the air, too. He may have had a couple of games where he didn't do himself justice such as the Southampton Youth Cup game and the 3-0 defeat at Rochdale where he played as a defensive midfielder but that's to be expected of someone so young.

Jack has been very impressive when playing at centre half for Pompey and could well be the club's short-to-mid-term future until he inevitably makes the step up to a higher level. Who knows how far he can go if he keeps his feet on the ground?

Hopefully we'll see a lot more of Whatmough in the team next season, no matter who the manager is.
