Craig Westcarr scored twice as Portsmouth continued their pre-season with another win after a fairly uneventful match at Thurrock.
The game started at a very slow pace with no meaningful action until Westcarr gave Pompey the lead on 33 minutes after his tame effort beat the Thurrock keeper.
The former Walsall man then bagged a second goal six minutes later when he fired a low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the net.
The second half was even more uneventful as the game was played at a slow pace and hindered by the setting sun obscuring the players' vision.
Joe Devera and Ryan Bird both struck the woodwork late on but Pompey had to settle for just the two goal victory in the end with the only sour note being Bradley Tarbuck's injury that forced him off early in the second half.
It seems like Miles Storey was impressive yet again and with Westcarr banging the goals in it'll be interesting to see who Andy Awford will select up front for the season opener at Exeter as Ryan Taylor would have been at the forefront of his thoughts but he may now consider changing his mind.
In other news a Portsmouth XI were held to a 1-1 draw at AFC Portchester tonight. Nilsen scored for Pompey but Moody bagged an equaliser for the home side.
Pompey's next friendly match is on Saturday when they take on Ebbsfleet United.
