Fulham's win at Newcastle today has confirmed that Portsmouth are mathematically safe from relegation and will be playing in the Premier League next season.
Diomansy Kamara arguably scored his most important goal for Pompey by giving Fulham the lead at St. James' Park and that was enough to seal the win. This means that the Toon stay on 34 points with one game remaining and therefore can't catch Pompey on 38.
Newcastle will go down next week if they lose to Villa as Hull picked up a point at Bolton. Middlesbrough are all-but down after their 1-1 draw with Villa whilst West Brom will still have a chance of safety if they beat Liverpool tomorrow.
Pompey can now prepare for a seventh conesecutive season in the top flight and hopefully our status will attract a new buyer to the club. I'm also hoping that Paul Hart will throw his cautious approach out of the window for Monday's game against Sunderland who are not safe from the drop themselves.
It's been a disappointing season but at least it has ended on a somewhat hollow high note. Paul Hart and Brian Kidd should be given credit for their work despite the dire style of football. I was fairly sure we'd get relegated under Tony Adams.
Thanks Joey, what you did today may well be the most useful thing you have ever done for Portsmouth Football Club!
