Jed Wallace has signed a new three year contract at Pompey.
This is fantastic news for obvious reasons. Jed May have had his detractors last season as he struggled to live up to the ridiculously high expectations placed on him after he burst onto the scene last season but he seemed to flourish under Andy Awford, a manager he knows well, and at 20-years-old his best years are still well ahead of him.
Given that many Portsmouth fans were expecting Wallace to depart this almost feels like a new signing and if he were to leave Pompey now then the club would receive a more substantial fee for him.
With Wallace, Smith, Shorey and Hollands signed Awford is starting to assemble a strong squad ahead of the 2014/2015 season with players like Holmes and Taylor already in it.
That means that expectations are going to be higher and the pressure will mount quicker now for Awford. But when you've got a player with the natural ability in Wallace who can create chances and score goals from nothing then those lofty expectations seem easier to fulfil.
