TRIPLE TRANSFER SWOOP FOR BLUES

A defender, a midfielder and a striker have been purchased in a day. There was no transfer talk in the run up, no build up and as a result a slight anti climax as Redknapp gets his summer of rebuilding underway. It seems like people's sources are too entranced with the World Cup to worry about Pompey and it certainly is strange to have to think about the club whilst this festival of football is underway. It's almost like party pooper tactics by Pompey on two accounts.

However the players that have been brought in look good aquisitions for the club. In defence, Harry has turned to the lower divisions and plucked Luton's player of the year from obscurity. Matthew Taylor has earned rave reviews and plays in the left wing back role - his attacking runs and defensive qualities make a nice package and it seems that we have finally signed the Vincent that never was. A wing back signing also raises intriguing questions of Harry's formula for next season with 3-5-2 looking likely.

In midfield, Harry has raided his second box of treasures and brought in Richard Hughes from Bournemouth. The Scotland U-21 is a playmaker and looks set for full Scotland honours this season - Pompey could feasibly have Harper, Burchill and Hughes in the Scotland squad next season bring steely determination the the South Coast club. However it is upfront where most of the excitment lies.

The exotically named Vincent Pericard joins on loan from Serie A giants Juventus and was snapped up in front of some Premiership Clubs. Juve don't want to see the striker leave but feel a year loaned out will allow the young striker to progress and he apparently going to be a big fans favourite.

The OS couldn't resist a dig at The News or websites such as this one that deal in speculation with Peter Storrie saying: "We have done business as it should be done. I am sure the majority of fans would rather have transfers conducted in this way"
