Benjani may have bagged the goals but for me there has been one player who has stood head and shoulders above everyone else so far this season. That man is Sylvain Distin.
I don't think I've ever seen a defender who is so cool in possession of the ball, so confident that he can break forward with it and so quick that the majority of Premier League strikers cannot get in behind him.
He's also pretty strong, good in the air and can challenge for the ball better than a lot of other defenders. Not only that, but he works superbly well with Sol Campbell at the centre of the Pompey defence in a partnership that's getting more successful every game.
He's also a leader on the pitch. When Pompey have missed Sol Campbell, the Frenchman has been there to play the role of captain and organise the defence. He's barely put a foot wrong since joining the club and has played in every game, making him a top model of consistency.
When Harry signed him for nothing in the summer, I spoke to one City fan who was almost in tears that Distin had gone for not a single penny. I can now see why he was so upset because he's been nothing short of top class for Pompey this season.
It's about time that the 29-year-old received some much deserved recognition for his performances It's shocking that a player of his calibre has never been capped for France.
I'll make a bold statement and say that Sylvain Distin is the best defender we have at this club, and probably the best ever defender I have seen wear the Royal Blue. We could face a bit of trouble trying to hold onto him in January as I believe that Distin could make the squad of any Premier League team.
For now, he's ours and lets hope that City fans are made to rue his departure even more come Sunday.
