It just had to happen didn't it...
Pompey have been drawn away to Southampton in Round 5 of the FA Cup. It will be the first time the South Coast derby fixture has been played since April 2005, when Harry Redknapp's Scummers were thrashed 4-1 at Fratton Park.
I'm happy that Pompey have drawn the easiest team left in the competition, but we must be wary that the Stains are a team on the up (albeit in a very poor league) and at home they will fancy their chances.
It would be fitting for them if they were to add to Pompey's misery but the players can't let that happen. It would be a massive dent to our pride if we were to be beaten by them even though they are two divisions below us.
Like many other Pompey fans I was hoping that we'd get a home draw as Pompey and Southampton were the last two balls in the draw, but in terms of progressing to the quarter-finals I'd much rather go to St. Mary's than Stamford Bridge.
Bring them on! If we can't beat them at their place when they are two divisions below us then we may as well give up all hope now.
The tie will be played on either the 13th or 14th of February.
