As good as our midfielders have been playing recently, there's one issue with them that's a slight worry and that's the amount of cards that they're collecting.
Sean Davis has already paid the price for overdoing his job on occasion, having been suspended for picking up five yellow cards before yesterday's game and then picking up yet another one at St. James' Park meaning currently has seven to his name.
Papa Bouba Diop will miss the game with Man City after picking up his fifth booking against Blackburn during the week, and he's not been here as long as Davis or Sulley Muntari. (Some sources say that he's only picked up four yellows though, so maybe he isn't banned?)
Muntari is only one yellow card away from another suspension having already been sent off against Man United this season. You'd expect him to pick that up against City next week or maybe at Birmingham after the international break.
Our midfielders are going to need to show more discipline or else we're going to get hit hard by suspensions that might ultimately cost us points as Davis, Muntari and Diop have all been an integral part of the 4-3-3 system and without them, it wouldn't be so effective.
Saying that, we've got adequate players to replace them in Pedro Mendes and Richard Hughes but then Hughes is no stranger to a yellow card and Pedro was our only player to be sent off last season.
One thing is for certain, we certainly won't be picking up any fair play awards this season!
