That's How It's Done!

The Portsmouth first-team went to Dorchester this evening to put the misery of Havant behind the club as they ran out 3-1 winners at The Avenue Stadium. Glen Johnson notched another goal for Pompey whilst Benjani scored a brace after Dorchester had levelled after a mistake from our trialist defender.

It's hard to learn much about your first team when they play against such inferior opposition as these sorts of games are just for fitness boosting and are of more benefit to the lower league side both on and off the pitch. Even so, I gathered that Glen Johnson was our best player tonight and has probably been our best player in pre-season. Not that that means anything considering Laurent Robert was our best player in last years pre-season and look how he turned out.

It's good to see Benjani on the scoresheet too, according to the radio he slotted away a couple of chances he probably would have missed last season due to lack of confidence, so his double today will have been a boost for him. What won't have been a boost is the fact that we conceded to non-league opposition in consecutive day. The goal was down to an error from Boca Juniors trialist Emmi Liano so I doubt he'll be getting a contract at Pompey. All in all though it seemed a very comfortable win and a decent performance as it should have been last night.

According to our Director of Communications we will be getting a new home strip as expected and that we can expect some more developments on signings in the coming days so watch this space.
