There is no doubting that on his day Paul Gascoigne was the most talented English footballer of his generation. Many feel that if he had kept on the straight and narrow he would of been one of the best players the world has ever seen. Unfortuantely injury and drinking ravaged his career and football fans could only ever see glimpses of his talent. Most notably in the World Cup in 1990, for Tottenham the next season then in patches for Rangers and Lazio. 1996 was his last great spell in an England shirt. Most recently he struggled in division one with Burnley and was turned away from America.
This begs the question why Harry Redknapp would want to bring this fading star to Fratton Park. Paul Merson has looked after himself slightly better and proved last season that he can cut it in the Premiership. Gazza meanwhile struggled with Middlesborough and Everton and it's doubtful that he could last a full 90 minutes.
This team needs a new right back and maybe another striker but Gazza? He's a hero but not one we need around Fratton Park.
