Normally the more ridiculous rumours and stories start to appear towards the end of summer. It happens when the media run out of things to talk about; there's no major tournament, there's no obvious transfers, so it's time to start stirring it up. I present exhibit A - "Romario to Portsmouth"; or exhibit B - "Yakubu to Birmingham".
And yet here we are - still in May - and already we're well on our way. But for once it isn't the delights of the Sun, Mirror or Star - it's their French counterparts.
But first, a little background. Perrin is French, you may have noticed. Lyon are an impressive French side and frequently qualify for the Champions League as well as progressing well in the competition, and what's more their manager is leaving this summer. You can see the way this is going. When Perrin was asked in a harmless enough interview if he would ever consider a job at a place like Lyon, he said of course he would. Much in the similar way that when young players are asked if they'd ever move to Chelsea or Arsenal by our own gutter rags, they always say of course they would. Who can blame them?
However, just like those young players in the media over here, the French media are now reporting that Perrin wants the Lyon job, is set to take over there and leave us in the lurch.
Summer is going to be rubbish isn't it?
