It's no secret that the Ty Europe deal has reached a conclusion and that it's time to start looking for someone else to plaster all over the new kit. Like or loathe that little red heart, there's no denying that it's been an incredibly lucky symbol for us - promotion and staying up in the Premier League twice - the new company have got a lot to live up to!
According to sources at the club, it's now been narrowed down to two or three potentials (sadly Mick's Monster Burgers are not believed to be amongst the runners). So let's run through the three most likely candidates, according to those with "an ear to the ground"...
Betfair - previously involved with football sponsorship with Fulham. One of the more popular rumours was that we were getting involved with an online betting organisation, so whether or not Betfair was just a name drawn out of a hat or whether this is a genuine option remains to be seen. Fulham are now sponsored by Dabs, so they're clearly back on the market.
Singapore Airlines - another very popular choice, once again due to being associated with another big rumour - that we're set to sign with a Far East airline firm. No doubt this name was just picked out of a hat, but things went mental during the week after a slightly dubious looking "new shirt" appeared with Singapore Airlines on the front. Probably a mock-up created by someone bored at work with nothing else to do but at this time of the year, we'll take anything!
Chang Brewery - best known as sponsors of Everton, the story was that we'd get them at sponsors and play a friendly against Thailand to link things up. You may well remember, for example, that Everton took a couple of Thai players on loan after they signed a deal with Chang. However we're now playing Iran and this rumour seems to be the most unlikely of the lot.
Those are the three major runners, with Far Eastern marketing potential being seen as one of the key factors. We've heard that before, haven't we Yoshi?
Now watch as we go for someone completely unrelated and that no-one ever expected. After all, who ever thought we'd be sponsored by a stuffed toy company...
