Soopa Steve sacked

Former player-manager Steve Claridge has been removed from his position in charge of Weymouth.

After being controversially replaced at Fratton Park by Graham Rix - despite being told that Rix was coming in simply as a coach to assist him - Claridge moved onto Millwall, before departing for the post at Weymouth a little over a year ago.

Despite going close to promotion last year, his side have suffered a slow start to the season and are lingering in midtable. The straw that broke the camel's back came when Thame United, themselves from two leagues below Weymouth, knocked them out of the cup this weekend. He still has his media career to fall back on; the artist formerly known as "Super Steve" is a regular on TalkSport, the BBC and Sky Sports.
