New Pompey captain Sol Campbell has signed a new contract with the club today, extending his stay at Fratton Park until the end of the 2008/2009 season.
This is obviously excellent news for us as his performances for the club have been outstanding in general since he joined and this should mean that we won't have to put up with tedious transfer speculation surrounding his future when January arrives.
Sol himself has also cited that previous statement as one of the reasons for signing a new deal so he can concentrate on just playing football now.
The 32-year-old told the official site: "The club's moving forward with a talented squad and plans for the new training ground. The club are certainly going in the right direction."
Campbell could well be our most important player this season, last Sunday showed how much we missed him at the back. Gary Sadler (the Pompey physio) says that he should be fit for the Liverpool game.
