Pompey have officially confirmed that Sol Campbell has joined Pompey on a two-year deal. There were minor doubts about the deal being completed as man City looked to scupper the move at the last minute but by then the deal has been done and dusted.
This is probably the biggest name signing Portsmouth Football Club have made and I'm delighted that he has chosen Pompey over a host of other European clubs.
Sol claims to have joined Pompey because he wants a new challenge and wants to join a club going in the right direction and he wants to help us reach the next level. He also says that he did have offers from abroad but they didn't work out which is why he opted to stay in England. The England centre back heralded Pompey as a "fantastic club with great potential" claiming that coming to Fratton Park was "an easy decision to make".
Peter Storrie and Harry Redknapp have both said that this signing is a statement of where the club wants to go and that now hopefully more quality players want to join the club.
Welcome to Pompey Sol!
