Sodje In Match Fixing Probe

Last updated : 08 December 2013 By Jim Bonner

Those Pompey fans who travelled to Boundary Park last season to watch Pompey get beaten 1-0 by Oldham Athletic will remember Sam Sodje bizarrely being sent off after punching Jose Baxter in the groin twice.

Well, it has been revealed today that the ex-Pompey defender allegedly deliberately did that to receive a £70,000 bong.

Newspapers such as The Telegraph have been reporting this story today and printing what the 34-year-old allegedly said to an undercover reporter, boasting that he could fix matches for money in the Premier League and even the World Cup. The National Crime Agency are now investigating these claims.

The news, is of course, sickening and should Sodje be found guilty he will likely never play football professionally again and could well be jailed for his involvement.

It's another blow for football in general as this match fixing investigation surely has more to reveal in the future and is more damning proof of how corrupt our national game is.
