It's all a bit quiet around Fratton Park recently. We're getting the same old links to Celtic players, Lens players and some resurgent old rumours but there's nothing really new for Pompey fans to ponder. So therefore let's all panic and accept relegation because we haven't signed anyone!
.....Or not.
It's still early June, yes there's no deals done yet but we're in the same boat as pretty much every other Premier League club barring Chelsea who can sign anyone they want anyway and Everton who have possibly blown their whole budget on two Championship players. There's no reason to worry, the start of the season is miles away yet! If we haven't signed anyone by the time the first game has arrived then I will raise an eyebrow. Having said that we're Portsmouth with Mr. Wheeler-Dealer himself in charge so to suggest that we won't have signed anyone by August is pretty ludicrous don't you think?
Besides, who's to say that we don't have deals in the pipeline that nobody has got news of? I remember two seasons ago when we hadn't signed anyone and people were starting to get a bit edgy when "shock!" David Unsworth, Lomana Lua Lua and Ricardo Fuller had all been signed at the same time and I certainly didn't see that one coming that's for sure. Surely it's better if we were to go about our business quietly rather than be gobby about it so we can allow Charlton to steal our transfer targets yet again?
On the other hand, I would like us to sign at least one player before the World Cup but that's purely from a selfish point of view. Until June 22nd when the fixtures are released there really isn't anything to talk about from a club point of view and you can only laugh at Peter Crouch's dancing for a certain amount of time, so a new face to analyse would be nice.
So don't worry! There will be new additions soon I'm sure, in the meantime we'll have to "enjoy" constant news about Wayne Rooney's foot and how Brazil are going to win the World Cup. Just get on with it already!
