First things first - apologies for that dreadful opening preview line just up there. Not very original, was it? Stated the facts in the dull sort of way you might expect from the BBC website. Sorry.
Getting to the point, it's time for today's transfer rumours.
Gregory Vignal
Left back who plays for Liverpool but spent last season on loan at Rangers where he did well. Although Unsworth is apparently getting another chance to prove himself, we could certainly do with cover at left back and as a young Frenchman he'd seem to fit the Perrin bill. I don't think you could hold it against him that he hasn't played much for the Reds when you've got something like Riise in the team in front of you. "The Quay" reckon the deal is all but sewn up, so we shall see.
Paulo Wanchope
One report claims that he has already passed a medical and is just talking it over with his family; one report claims that he has signed a contract and will be unleashed at a press conference at some point this week; one report claims that he's having second thoughts on the whole thing (which will make some people happy). No doubt this is just the beginning of a four year transfer saga.
Alexei Smertin
"The News" might have to give this one up soon as there's strong rumours on the interweb that he might join Charlton on a year long loan. Although ourselves and Birmingham have also made offers for him, the Russian press are saying that he wants to stay in London. If Smertin were to go to Charlton, it might mean that Alan Curbishley gives up the chase for another supposed target, Damien Francis - who of course we're interested in ourselves, so the rumour goes.
Diomansy Kamara
Torino are supposed to be interested in securing his services, but given the fact they're being investigated by the Italian authorities for dodgy financial dealings and could easily find themselves relegated, I'd say they've got two hopes - Bob Hope, and no hope. And Bob Hope's dead.
And finally a couple of ex-players are on the move; Sammy Igoe is teaming up with Steve Claridge at Millwall whilst Seb Schemmel is on trial at Celtic, of all places.
