Harry Redknapp is ready to make David Ginola his latest signing in order to add a touch of class to Pompey's promotion push. Reports in the French sports paper L'Equipe confirmed that the frenchman is talking to Pompey and The News has this morning quoted Harry Redknapp as being in talks with the new manager.
Redknapp told the paper: "I think he would be a tremendous signing, but it's not close because I haven't put a deal to him yet. I would have thought he could be phenomenal in the first division. He's a nice fella, too" This deal does rely on Mandaric who is thought to be unwilling to match Ginola's £25,000 wages but is willing to offer him a similar deal that lured Prosinecki to Fratton Park last season. This would be around £15,000 a week - but with huge bonuses if he is able to fire Pompey into the Premiership.
Last season proved that you need more than one World Class player to make a real difference but with Ginola on the left wing, he is in a better position to Prosinecki as teams will not be able to muscle us out in the centre of midfield. There is no doubting his qualitity and the deal would probably see Pompey transformed from a hard working, young side into one that is capable of truly damaging sides this season.
