Quincy Owusu-Abeyie's loan with Portsmouth has been terminated and the Ghanian has now signed a permanent deal with Qatar side Al Sadd.
Pompey are reported to have received £250,000 to allow his loan to be cancelled as Spartak Moscow were keen to sell the player to his new club for £4 million.
The news is a blow to us Pompey fans who were told by the administrator that no players would leave before the semi-final. Avram Grant is likely to be enraged with the news, given the fact that he has already lost so many players to injury at the moment.
With all of our problems, I make it that we have just ten players that are currently available to play against Tottenham who have made a league appearance this season.
Of course, I expect many more to get fit before then but this injury crisis has hit the club hard and letting go of one of our strikers for a paltry quarter-of-a-million is not going to help us beat Spurs and potentially bank an extra million in prize money.
I'd like to know what Andrew Andronikou's thinking was behind this move. Yes, it's some extra cash but to let a player go when we can barely field a team is ridiculous.
On a final note, I'd like to wish Quincy all the best in Qatar. He wasn't here long, but he certainly made sure that we would remember him just for scoring one certain goal...
