This is great isn't it? I get to tell you my opinions on the game, and you get to listen! You lucky people!
- In the first half (and probably for about the first hour in total, until substitutions started to throw things up in the air) we more than matched our visitors. We were closing them down quickly, lots of good tackling in the middle of the park but it was the way we used the ball that was most impressive; plenty of slick one touch passing, just knocking it short around the park but slowly progressing up the pitch. It was good stuff to watch, not to mention a sign of confidence that we believed in our ability to play our way through the visitors rather than just hoofing it long all the time.
- Despite conceding two goals, I thought the defence as a unit did very well. For the first ten/fifteen minutes there always seemed to be a spare man on either wing, although eventually it turned out that this did seem to be part of the game plan. Full credit to Taylor and Griffin, they always managed to get across and cover. O'Brien was very solid and kept Adriano in his back pocket pretty much the whole game. And Dejan was, well, he was Dejan. Mr Consistent and the odd comedy error.
- Viafara had a very good game I thought. Determined, strong in the tackle, good in the air, full of skills, not to mention breaking up the opposition play on lots of occasions. Impressive all round, my only concern is that I thought the exact same things about Amdy Faye when he first signed and played in pre-season. Please, please, please don't turn out to be another sulk who turns it on for the big teams and the cameras.
- Robert was four hundred gazillion times better than the disinterested party I last witnessed at Yeovil. Was there anyone in the ground not impressed by his mid-air overhead flick to Pericard, who sadly couldn't quite find the finish the move deserved? As well as that there were some lovely cross-field passes and some wonderful crosses - shame about the corners though.
- Although Mornar started off doing a decent job before his injury and O'Neil covered ok, I still think this match showed up our need for a real right winger. Lua and O'Neil were using that space from time to time but in truth they both prefer to play down the centre if possible, and Griff is a real man's right back - not interested in getting down the wing and crossing, he's far more comfortable staying at home and breaking the leg of some fancy dan who tries to nutmeg him.
- Congratulations to Inter's supporters, you brought more than Wimbledon and Crewe.
- Nice to see Todorov and Pericard back, it was like 2003 all over again.
And, er, that's your lot.
