But with Leeds and Wolves both losing, the Yak's late winner at Ewood Park brings Portsmouth closer to safety. How much closer, will be determined by Leicester's result against inconsistent Liverpool tomorrow.
But for now, the win meant the table looks a whole lot more healthy for Pompey. Manager Harrp Redknapp said of the win: "We have played okay away from home all season but have not scored and today we managed to stick a couple away - that made all the difference and six points this week has been a terrific total.
"I think a few teams got sucked back into trouble today. Suddenly, there will be some teams that will be looking over their shoulders.
"I think we can win away from home now, so we've got a chance.
"Anybody is capable of putting a run together this time late in the season.
"We have five home games and three away games left, so we have to make sure we get the points we need."
