With Lomana Lua-Lua's transfer from Newcastle to Portsmouth seemingly dead in the water due to conflicting valuations, Portsmouth have turned their attention to Football League Championship side Ipswich Town to boost their firepower.
Bent, who signed from Blackburn whilst Ipswich were a Premiership side, is one of the stars of the Suffolk club's potent strikeforce, but failure in the play-offs last season has meant that Ipswich can no longer afford to keep the 26-year old.
Ipswich have accepted an offer of £450,000 from Portsmouth, but face competition for the forward, who spent last season at Leicester City.
Everton have also tabled a bid, whilst Premiership new boys West Bromwich Albion are also considering a move for the player.
