Portsmouth: The New Era?

Last updated : 16 July 2009 By Jim Bonner
In an interview with The News, Anil Bhoyrul, a close friend of Sulaiman Al-Fahim has revealed some interesting news about the forthcoming takeover and what the Doctor has planned for PFC.

The full interview can be viewed here but here is an overview of what Bhoyrul has revealed.

- The takeover will be officially announced next Friday (July 24th) with Paul Hart set to be named as the permanent manager.

- Al-Fahim is not going to spend a huge amount of cash immediately as he is focusing on the long-term development of the club. The new stadium and the youth academy seem to be the main focus of the development.

- The Doctor is aiming to market Portsmouth in the Middle-East, much like Manchester City have.

- Bhoyrul claims that Al-Fahim will listen to the fans and won't follow in the footsteps of Mike Ashley.

The last point is an interesting one because the optimism of the Pompey fans has hit a very low trough as key players from a squad that barely survived relegation last season are being sold and there is currently no sign of them being replaced.

The fans are also not happy with Hart taking permanent control of the team after the dire football we were subjected to last season, not to mention Hart's inexperience in top level management.

So it seems that Al-Fahim already has a job on his hands to appease the worrying Pompey fans. It's all good having plans for a bright future but relegation to the Championship will destroy those hopes and dreams for sure.

The club is in complete disarray at the moment so I hope the Doctor has an ace or two up his sleeve or else our "new era" will take place in the lower leagues.
