A year ago, Avram Grant was at Portsmouth Football Club in some sort of director's role. A year on and he finds himself in one of the top jobs in world football. Funny old game isn't it?
Grant's record since he took over has been excellent and Chelsea are now looking for a club record tenth straight win in all competitions and if past encounters with Pompey are anything to go by then it's hard to see us stopping them from doing that.
Our Premier League record against Chelsea is woeful having lost all nine previous encounters with them and only scoring against them once. Not just that but all of the league games at Fratton Park have ended in 2-0 defeats.
However, tomorrow could represent our best chance of a result against Chelsea as Jermain Defoe will start the match and if Benjani is still at the club then he could play on the wing as Milan Baros is going to make his home debut.
Ex-Chelsea stars Glen Johnson and Lassana Diarra will also have a point to prove against their former employers so I'm expecting good performances from them.
The main concern for us is that Sylvain Distin is almost certain to miss this match with injury and so Hermann Hreidarsson is likely to play in the centre with Noe Pamarot at left back, although it could be the other way round. Papa Bouba Diop could also feature after Senegal were knocked out of the African Nations Cup yesterday.
The visitors will be without a few very important players as John Terry and Andriy Shevchenko are out injured, Ricardo Carvalho is banned, Frank Lampard will probably only be fit enough to make the bench and John Obi-Mikel, Michael Essien, Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba are all at the African Cup of Nations.
Still, the likes of Nicolas Anelka, Michael Ballack and Joe Cole still possess so much talent that we will lose if we're not at the top of our game. Then there's the problem of trying to break down their watertight defence and trying to beat a world class 'keeper in Petr Cech.
It would be a massive result for us if we could take anything from Chelsea, but with their superb away record (superior to ours, in fact) it wouldn't surprise me to see yet another 0-2 defeat.
