Burton Albion striker Adam McGurk is set to become Portsmouth's latest recruit, according to the local news.
The 26-year-old's contract with the Brewers is about to expire and he has opted to join Pompey rather than stay with last season's League Two champions.
The Northern Irishman's goalscoring record isn't exactly prolific but it's not terrible, either, having scored 15 goals in 69 appearances for Burton. One of those was against Andy Awford's men last September as he pounced on a mishit shot to poach an early goal for the hosts.
McGurk's game is about more than goals, however, and he often has a role to play in making goals as well as scoring them. He may be the perfect foil for Matt Tubbs this coming season.
He should be confirmed as a Pompey player tomorrow and could well be joined by Peterborough defender Christian Burgess who has already agreed personal terms with the club.
Paul Cook's squad is really starting to take shape now. If he can get his hands on two full backs, another midfielder and another striker or two then his side should look a good shout for finally getting out of the basement division.
