Harry Redknapp has brought in his second signing of the summer, signing 28 year old David Thompson on a free after he was released from Wigan Athletic.
I'm pretty sure that this is more of a squad signing than anything, as it has been well documented that Thompson is very injury prone, although when fit he can be a very useful and talented player, as shown when we played Wigan last season and he was the one that pulled all the strings from midfield.
If he stays fit, Thompson could well be an inspired signing for Pompey, having broken into the England squad in the past however he'll have work to do if he wants to dislodge Mendes and Davis from the centre midfield, although he can play across the whole pitch which is a bonus considering our lack of width in the squad at the moment.
Thompson signs on a one-year deal, presumably to see how he copes this season with his previous injury problems.
In other news, it's reported that Peruvian Juan Varga, a 22 year old defender is also on his way to Pompey. I've never heard of him though I'll see what I can dig up on him later. Harry is also rumoured to be interested in David Nugent, has someone been reading my last article?
Anyway, welcome to Pompey Dave!
