Tony Adams has added West Ham midfielder Hayden Mullins and Porto midfielder Pele to his ranks as he looks to bolster the midfield that was so poor against Swansea on Saturday.
Mullins, 29, joins Pompey on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee reported to be £1 million and will wear the number 6 shirt. Pele, 21, has signed on loan with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season and will take the number 26 jersey.
Mullins is a proven Premier League player and I'm glad we've got a grafter and a true professional in the team. Yes, he's not a replacement for Lassana Diarra but he will give 100% and I'm sure the fans will take to him quickly if he gets stuck in like I expect him to.
If the signing on price was true, then we can't complain at getting a good player for £1 millon and if you want further evidence as to how well he can do for us then you only need to look at what the Hammers have to say about him now he has gone.
Whilst everyone knows Mullins, little is known about Pele (real name Vitor Hugo Gomes Passos) other than he is a Portuguese midfielder that signed for FC Porto from Inter Milan last summer but has struggled to settle there and fancied a move to England.
Pele began his professional career at our good friends Vitoria Guimaraes before being snapped up by Inter to solve their injury crisis where he scored an absolute belter of a goal in the Coppa Italia final.
He then moved to Porto but has failed to settle due to the managerial changes at the club and according to the player himself he wanted to come to Fratton Park as soon as Adams declared his interest.
The arrival of both Mullins and Pele have made me feel a little more optimistic about the Villa match tomorrow after the Swansea debacle and both players should go straight into the team for the game.
Peter Storrie claims that Pompey's transfer dealings are not over yet as another midfielder and another striker could be on their way before the deadline passes at 5pm next Monday.
The latest from the rumour mill is that Tony Adams is still keen on bringing Joey Barton to the club for £4 million whilst a deal for Javier Saviola might be close but Tranquillo Barnetta won't be joining from Bayer Leverkusen.
In the meantime, welcome to Portsmouth Hayden and Pele.
