As expected, David James has today completed his transfer from Manchester City to Portsmouth signing a two year deal.
James has signed for an undisclosed fee but Pompey are believed to have paid City £1.2 million for his services. Unfortunately for James, he is no longer an England international and neither is Sol Campbell following Steve McClaren's naming of his first England squad. So Pompey still have to wait until they can boast that they own a full England international since god knows when!
It'll be interesting to see if James is the first choice 'keeper right from the start. I think it's obvious he will be handed the vacant number 1 shirt and if I had to put money on it I would bet on the ex-Watford, Liverpool, Villa, West Ham and City goalkeeper to be in between the sticks when Blackburn turn up for the season opener a week Saturday. The move might irritate Dean Kiely but I'm sure he won't shy away from fighting for his position.
Fratton Faithful wishes a warm welcome to Fratton Park.
