Paul Hart has made his third summer signing by bringing Lyon striker Frederic Piquionne to Fratton Park on loan for the season.
Originally from New Caledonia, the 30-year-old had only scored twice for his parent club last season after they signed him from Monaco following a successful season. However, it is said that his prescence in the side helped his strike partner, Karim Benzema, score as many goals as he did before moving to Real Madrid.
I must admit I don't know much about Piquionne but a friend of mine who follows French football says he is similar to Emile Heskey. He may not score as many goals as someone with his pace and power should but his overall contribution to the side can make up for that.
That's all well and good, but we need someone to replace Peter Crouch's goals of last season and I'm not convinced that "Fred" is the man to do that. However, I'm always willing to support anyone who joins the club in such dire circumstances at the moment and he may well prove to be a hit. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be like the last player we loaned from Lyon....
As one striker arrives at Fratton Park it looks like another may be leaving. David Nugent has been linked with a move to Stoke City after his bust up with Marc Wilson in Portugal after Saturday night's defeat to Benfica.
The details of the fight are unclear but it is believed that Wilson struck Nugent with a piece of wood or a metal rod from a wardrobe and several other members of the team had to separate them.
Both Wilson and Nugent were fined and dealt with by a furious Paul Hart and it now seems that the Pompey manager has had enough with Nugent's aggressive attitude after alleged previous altercations with other team members during training sessions.
We'll have to see what develops but at least there has been some positive news today during a very turbulent time for all Pompey supporters.
