Pompey began pre-season with a 1-1 draw with Exeter City at St. James' Park.
A few players were missing from this game such as Niko Kranjcar and Lassana Diarra, but Pompey still fielded a strong side including David James, Jermain Defoe and Sol Campbell.
Glen Little made his Portsmouth debut but Peter Crouch was on the bench but didn't take part whilst a trialist by the name of "O.J" played up front. He is a 19-year-old Gambian striker and looked pretty good from what I gathered.
Defoe put Pompey ahead via the penalty spot after O.J was pulled down in the area. The England striker then missed a couple of great chances to extend the visitors' lead but Exeter were denied by a sharp David James.
Wholesale changes were made in the second half with Ben Sahar making his first appearance for the club and Linvoy Primus returning for his first game since the final game of the 06/07 season against Arsenal.
Linvoy didn't make a good start to his comeback as he gave away a free kick which eventually led to Edwards slotting in an equaliser. Sahar then somehow missed an easy chance to give Pompey the lead almost straight from the restart.
As you'd expect, many substitutes from both sides meant the game petered out into much of a muchness. An American goalkeeper played in the second half for Pompey but had little to do whilst the game was a good workout for the fringe players such as Duffy, Christophe and Subotic.
Whilst a 1-1 draw with a League Two side isn't exactly the result we wanted to kick things off, it won't matter in the long run as the team had completely changed by the end of the game.
The match served its purpose as the players look to get match fit in time for the Community Shield.
