It may only be for 24 hours, but Portsmouth fans can enjoy the feeling of being the top team in England tonight after a late hat-trick by Teddy Sheringham took Portsmouth above Man City on goal difference.
There was no indication of what was to come in an even first half which produced plenty of effort but no goals.
But when Portsmouth got going, did they ever! Patrik Berger carved through the Bolton defence and fired at Jaskalainean, who blocked the shot but couldnb't keep out Stone's follow up.
After that, it was the Teddy Sheringham show. A trademark header from Boris Zivkovic's pinpoint cross leaving the Trotters with an uphill struggle. His brace arrived shortly before the end. When Sheringham finished a tap-in from Steve Stone, it was like Euro 96 all over again. And who better to take the penalty - thus completing the hat trick - than Teddy himself after former Real Madrid defender Ivan Campo mowed down substitute Vincent Pericard deep into injury time. Pompey were also lifted by Linvoy Primus' first apperance this season after recovering from injury.
