Pompey have made their second signing of the season by brining Ben Sahar to Fratton Park from Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old Israel striker joins Portsmouth on a six month loan deal, therefore won't be able to play against his parent club on the opening day of the league season.
Sahar had spells at QPR and Sheffield Wednesday last season but didn't exactly set the world alight. A friend of mine who is an Owl said that Sahar looked too good for the Championship and that in the right team he could flourish, but then he also said that Franck Songo'o looked like a good player in that league so take that statement for whatever you think it is worth.
Saying that, he has looked good whenever he has played for Israel and at a Premier League club he should be able to develop his skills and show us what he can do at the highest level.
I do think, however, that Sahar is a squad signing and will be used for Carling Cup games and some of the league games against "lower Premier League" clubs.
Remember that the bench has been extended to seven players now so we will need all the bodies we can get so this could be a shrewd move by Harry, especially if Kanu decides he doesn't want to sign his new deal.
Welcome to the club Ben.
