Pompey have completed the loan signing of Bolton striker Conor Wilkinson until the end of the season (play-off matches included) and will join up with his new team mates after the international break.
The Irish U21 international has already had a taste of Fratton Park as he was part of the Newport side that won 3-0 less than a fortnight ago. The 21-year-old has already been loaned to six other clubs during his short career and only has 6 goals in 48 appearances to his name so far.
It seems like Wilkinson has been signed as almost like a replacement for Michael Smith who has hardly set the world alight since he arrived from Swindon. The Bolton loanee is also a tall striker and has the advantage of being able to play in the play-offs unlike Smith, should Pompey qualify for them, of course.
Still, Wilkinson's scoring record isn't exactly inspiring and you might wonder what Conor Chaplin is thinking given that Paul Cook has opted to sign another striker who is likely to get game time ahead of him despite how much he has progessed this season. Only time will tell if Cook's judgement is proved right and his record in the transfer market this season so far has been fairly good.
In other news, Paul Jones has been recalled from his loan at Crawley and is likely to go straight into the starting eleven on Friday with Ryan Fulton on international duty and Brian Murphy injured.
