Pompey finalised their pre-season preparations with a creditable goalless draw against Championship side Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
New keeper David Forde was arguably the star of the show as he produced some quality saves to keep the scores level. There were chances for Christian Burgess and Carl Baker at the other end but the efforts were off target and the game finished without a goal.
Fans who were there, especially those supporting the home side, were impressed by Paul Cook's side and the comments they've made suggest that Pompey should win promotion this season.
Of course, we've heard this all before and Pompey play better against the sides that come out and play attacking football against them. There aren't too many sides like that in League Two but with the additions of Baker and Lalkovic to the squad there should be enough craft to break these sides down.
The only questions remaining from this pre-season campaign are if Danny Hollands signs the contract offered and if Noel Hunt has done enough to earn himself a deal too. The latter was on the bench but never got on the pitch so read what you will into that. The Hollands situation has gone very quiet recently so he could well find another club.
Other than those questions, Cook is probably happy with his squad and how it will play whether it be in a diamond formation at home or the traditional 4-2-3-1 away from Fratton Park. The manager will surely have an idea of what his strongest eleven is now, baring in mind he struggled to nail that last season.
There's now less than a week to go before the season starts for real when Carlisle make the long trip down from Cumbria to the south coast. Hopefully this is the season when Portsmouth finally end their time in the doldrums.
