Portsmouth will play Derby County in the first round of the Capital One Cup after the draw was made today.
The Rams finished 8th in the Championship last season following a disastrous end to the campaign which saw them go from table-toppers to finishing outside the play-offs altogether, a slump in form which cost Steve McClaren his job.
Now managed by former Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement, this tie will be a tough assignment for Paul Cook's men and an early test of his new squad's capabilities.
The tie could also see former Pompey loanee George Thorne back at Fratton Park and will take place on either Tuesday, August 11th or Wednesday, August 12th.
The league fixtures will be released at 9am tomorrow.
