Pompey Defeat Dons

Portsmouth won what might be their final ever fixture at Kingsmeadow tonight, beating AFC Wimbledon 2-0 courtesy of two first half goals.

Luke Rodgers opened the scoring after a long ball from Jon Harley beat the Dons defence and was met by the former Notts County striker who rounded goalkeeper Seb Brown and put the ball into an empty net.

Gibraltar trialist Liam Walker scored the second goal after Liam Lawrence picked him out and he had all the time in the world to curl the ball into the top corner.

Pompey played a neat passing game in the first half and the hosts' only real chance of the half came from Stacy Long's scorching shot that struck the post.

Connor Clifford was given the opportunity to show Pompey fans what he could do in the second half when he came on as a substitute but the Dons would rue missing some sitters in the next 45 minutes.

Simon Eastwood managed to somehow scramble the ball to safety when Luke Moore looked certain to score.

More poor defending saw Jack Midson run through on goal and into the box only for Eastwood to save his shot as well as Moore's rebound. The loose ball then fell to Brandan Keirnan but he somehow managed to poke the ball wide from close range with the goal gaping.

That finishing was woeful and there was more to come from the home side as the ball somehow found its way to Byron Harrison who was no more than four yards away from goal and yet somehow managed to spectacularly "Quashie" the ball miles over the bar.

The only other incident of note from a Pompey perspective was the handbags in the box from both sets of players when Izale McLeod looked  to have been taken out.

A curious moment in the game came when Liam Lawrence, who is doing exactly what Tal Ben-Haim is doing by playing for his team for a massive wage packet, was subbed off on the hour to rapturous applause and the Pompey fans singing his name.

Yet once again, Ben-Haim was booed and abused every time he touched the ball (and more) despite being in the same situation as the Pompey captain. The mind boggles when it comes to our supporters sometimes...

As for the match, Apyy will be happy with the passing game his side were cpable of producing as well as good individual performances from Liam Walker and Mustapha Dumbuya.

He won't be so impressed with the woeful defending that will surely get punished at a higher level. I do not see Bournemouth's strikers missing the goal from three yards out in such spectacular fashion.

That is, of course, if Portsmouth Football Club exists after Friday. Before and during the game tonight I had been hearing conflicting rumours of staff clearing out their desks and a new C.E.O being appointed.

So, what's going on? I'm sure we will find out soon enough. But it may well be bad news yet...
