Pompe continued their unbeaten pre-season tonight with a fairly comfortable 2-0 win at Woking thanks to goals from Gareth Evans and Matt Clarke.
With Michael Poke joining Eastleigh on loan until January, ex-Ipswich and QPR reserve goalkeeper Brian Murphy started the match as the latest trialist in Paul Cook's squad.
Theo Robinson was no longer part of the squad as Conor Chaplin hit the crossbar early on. Evans then opened up the scoring after receiving the ball from Kal Naismith and drilling it past the Cards keeper after 28 minutes.
Then, a rare sight for the Pompey fans who braved the torrid conditions as their team scored directly from a corner! Evans turned provider as his delivery was headed in by Clarke just minutes after the first goal.
Pompey seemingly dominated most of the match with Chaplin and Stevens spurning good opportunities but Woking tested Murphy a fair few times in the second half to suggest that the defence is still lacking without Paul Robinson.
Still, it was another positive performance and result and it was good to see that Gary Roberts was in the team again after his injury scare.
Just one more friendly match remains now and that's away at Gillingham next Saturday before the big kick-off on August 8th.
