Portsmouth Football Club have confirmed that Tony Adams has been sacked as Portsmouth manager with John Metgod also shown the door.
The former Pompey gaffer has only won two league games since taking over from Harry Redknapp and it seems like the latest capitulation against Liverpool has end up costing him his job.
I have plenty of sympathy for Adams and I think we can all say that he was a decent bloke who really wanted to succeed but was ultimately out of his depth at Premier League level.
He can look back on his time at the club and claim he was unlucky but constantly losing leads cannot be a coincidence and Adams must take a share of the blame for a poor run of results, especially to mediocre teams at home.
Leads have been lost late against Fulham, Hull, AC Milan and Liverpool whilst late goals conceded to Wigan and Arsenal have also cost us precious points, not to mention the disasterous exit out of the FA Cup at the hands of Swansea.
Paul Hart has taken temporary charge of the first team although it looks like an appointment will be made quickly. Avram Grant is the bookies' favourite to take the job although Alan Curbishley has also been heavily linked. Other names such as Greame Souness and Sven Goran Eriksson have been linked in the press.
I still can't get my head around why the board would sack Adams so soon after publicly backing him after a transfer window where he was allowed to bring in his own players. Perhaps Sacha is close to selling up and the new owners would want their own man in charge?
Whoever takes over has 14 games to keep us out of the relegation zone which won't be an easy task. I would like to see Curbishley take charge as he has a proven record in relegation scraps and should be able to get the team out of trouble.
Finally, I will thank Tony Adams for all of his work at Fratton Park. He was an excellent assistant but unfortunately it seems that management is one step too far for him so I will wish him well in his future career.
