Portsmouth have announced that Brian Kidd has joined the club as Paul Hart's assistant until a permanent manager is appointed, when his position will then be re-assessed.
Kidd is an experienced assistant, having worked at Manchester United alongside Alex Ferguson during the 90's and also with a certain Sven Goran Eriksson with England.
The Swede has distanced himself with the Pompey job, but that doesn't mean he has completely ruled himself out after stating in an interview that he is committed to taking Mexico to the 2010 World Cup but "you never know in football."
Kidd also has other Manchester United links having been assistant to Bryan Robson at Sheffield United whilst he is also supposedly good friends with Roy Keane, who is now emerging as a frontrunner with the bookies to become the next Pompey manager.
Avram Grant is once again the favourite to take the Pompey managerial post although odds on Paul Hart have fallen as some people feel that he may be handed the job on a full-time basis if he can pull a couple of results out of the bag against Man City and Stoke.
Amidst all of this talk of managers and new assistants coming in we have perhaps forgotten the most important news to emerge from the club in the last couple of days:
Djimi Traore has been loaned to Birmingham for three months.
