With Lee Holmes having returned to Preston, Andy Awford has decided to let namesake Ricky join Northampton Town on loan for a month.
The winger hasn't been able to reproduce the performances of last season which saw him earn the Pompey player of the season award but the move is still a surprise, even to the man himself.
Awford must have a winger (or two) lined up in the transfer window as with the departure of both Holmes' and Miles Storey, he only has Andy Barcham and Jed Wallace available as his wingers.
It seems like the manager is going to have to continue to trim his squad if he wants to bring new players in. It's a shame that David Connolly can't be shifted and Awford is forced to resort to letting an out-of-favour player in Holmes go out on loan when he is actually willing to contribute and has the ability to make an impact on the match.
It should be a busy month ahead for everyone involved with Portsmouth FC, despite the lack of actual football to be played in it.
