Pedro Mendes has left Portsmouth after two-and-a-half years to sign for Rangers for £3 million. As one departs, one also enters as Jerome Thomas has signed from Charlton Athletic on a season-long-loan.
I'm sorry to see Pedro go, but the need to raise funds for other players and the unwillingness of other squad players to leave has meant that Mendes was available to be sold.
I'm not sure how much we will miss him. On his day he is one of the best passers of the ball on the pitch, can dictate the pace of the game and can shoot from long range as we all know.
I don't think he has been quite the same since the Ben Thatcher incident though and at 29-years-old he will begin to show signs of slowing down sooner rather than later.
I still think this is a bad move unless we have a replacement lined up. Pedro was our most creative central midfielder and now we only have Diarra, Diop, Davis and Hughes who can play in the centre unless Harry plans on playing Mvuemba more often or moves Kranjcar into the middle.
I'll miss Pedro and I wish him the best at Rangers. No Pompey fan will ever forget that strike against Manchester City which was ultimately the catalyst for our Great Escape in 2006.
Moving on and I'm not sure what to make of Thomas joining on loan from Charlton. He scored a grand total of np goals from midfield in a lower league and it has been reported that the 25-year-old has a slight attitude problem.
So that would fit the criteria for the perfect "Harry Redknapp" signing, wouldn't it? The former Arsenal winger does have pace and talent so if 'Arry can bring the best out of him then this could be a worthwhile deal.
Welcome to Portsmouth, Jerome.
