Marcos Painter has signed a new one-month-deal with Portsmouth having impressed Richie Barker since his return to the side.
Painter's Pompey future was in doubt due to his injury record and Nicky Shorey's arrival but in fairness he has performed well and managed to establish a run in the team, contributing to Pompey's improved defensive record in the last four games.
Barker's decision to give Painter a short term deal may also have been influence by how well Shorey played in midfield on Saturday at Oxford. If he continues to play well then Painter is the best option available to play at left back.
And should Marcos be plagued by injury again then he's only tied down to the club for a month and can be released in favour of bringing in another player.
A shrewd move, and there should be some more to come this week.
