Pompey have signed Sheffield Wednesday striker Caolan Lavery on a three-month-loan deal.
The 22-year-old wants some game time so he can play his way into the Northern Ireland squad after they confirmed their qualification for Euro 2016 last weekend but has found game time hard to come by at his parent club.
Lavery has found the net six times for Wednesday and scored three goals in eight appearances for both Plymouth and Chesterfield, where he worked with Paul Cook last season.
Wednesday fans have expressed their surprise that Lavery has dropped down to League Two to play his football as they believe that with his pace and ability, he should be able to play at a higher level.
Argyle fans also seem to rate him and so it looks like this is a good addition to an already strong squad on paper.
