Great news today as both Gary O'Neil and Matthew Taylor pledged their long term futures to Portsmouth Football Club, signing five and four year contracts respectively.
No longer do we have to worry about Taylor being subject to ridiculous bids from Fulham and we no longer have to sweat over any big clubs sniffing around our player of the season. It's a great statement from the club to show that we are looking to keep our best, young, English talent who were key players last season and no doubt will be this season too.
"Gary'O" told the official site of his delight at signing a new contract, the clubs longest serving player said "The club really seems to be going places, with investment and big plans. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some top players joining us in the next few weeks too. It's a great time to be here." Wouldn't be suprised eh Gary? Maybe that's a hint that a couple of decent players will be joining us in the near future!
Harry Redknapp was also delighted, saying "We intend to be a match for the best clubs in this league, and for this we need to keep hold of our best young and talented players. Today's news makes our intentions and vision perfectly clear as to our commitment to building a top squad of players which will be part of Pompey's exciting future." Judging by that statement I can't see O'Neil going to places like Cardiff on loan this season!
Now we have secured two of our best players it would be good if Lomana Lua Lua would sign a new contract too to deter any offers but this good news is great for the club and let's hope there's even more to come soon.
