So, the transfer window has finally slammed shut and so Pompey can't sell anymore players until January.
The final day of August saw Marc Wilson complete his expected move to Stoke in exchange for Dave Kitson, Liam Lawrence and £1 million. Tommy Smith also completed his move to QPR for a healthy £1.5 million whilst Marlon Pack moved to Cheltenham on a season-long loan.
James Hurst moved back to West Brom, with Pompey having bought him from the Baggies a couple of years ago but everyone else who was at the club yesterday stayed, which was a surprise to many.
David Nugent's proposed loan move to Blackpool didn't happen whilst John Utaka also couldn't be shifted.
All in all, I would say that yesterday wasn't a disaster for us. We have lost Wilson who will go on to be a very good player but the two players we have got in return are almost certain to do the business in the Championship.
And to get £1.5 million for a player who is now 30-years-old and had only scored one goal for Pompey has to be seen as good business, at least until he scores against us later in the season.
Like everyone else, I am surprised to see both Nugent and Utaka remain at Pompey. Despite the amount of stick that these two, who cost Pompey in excess of £14 million, have received in recent times, they now have the opportunity to get their heads down, settle themselves and prove their worth to Pompey.
However, the financial implications of keeping Nugent and Utaka on the books may prove costly as both players are still being paid so handsomely.
Given that Pompey have only raised around £12 million (reportedly) from player sales this summer, I'm not entirely sure if that figure is enough to satisfy the first part of the CVA because many different figures that we needed to raise by September had been quoted.
That problem is for Andrew Andronikou to solve, but Steve Cotterill has an equally huge problem due to his small squad size. Including Kanu and four youngsters in Liam O'Brien, Ellis Martin, Pete Gregory and Nadir Ciftci, Portsmouth FC currently has 20 players when everyone is fit.
This problem can be solved when the loan window opens up for the paupers to borrow players who don't make their 25-man squad in the Premier League but even then, there are limits to how many players can be loaned.
As I look at it at the moment, despite our poor start, I still think that our squad definitely has enough quality to finish 21st in the Championship. People forget that we still have Hermann and Kanu to come back when they sign their new contracts and Danny Webber is a fair player in this division too.
However, Pompey are still in desperate need of a right back and a creative midfielder who can play in the centre of the park. We simply cannot rely on Mullins to play as a full back all season whilst Brown and Hughes are probably two of the least creative players in the history of the game.
Many names have been mentioned but a better picture of who may be coming in will be painted once the Premier League clubs name their squads. Steve Cotterill can at least be secure in the knowledge that he isn't going to lose any more players until January, and so can completely focus on bringing players in.
So now that the wheeling and dealing has slowed down, attentions will now turn to the owner situation. Everything has gone a bit quiet on that front, but Andronikou did say that Pompey would come out of administration "on or around September 15th" so expect something to happen then.
For now, the dust has settled and it's time for the team to start climbing up the Championship table.
