Pompey's new sponsor has been unveiled as Oki Printing Solutions, a company from Japan. Having had dealings with them in my rock and roll life as an I.T. Technician I can safely confirm that yes, their printers ARE unreliable and overpriced as well as their technical support system being rubbish, but they're putting money into the club so I can't really say I care less in that respect. The sponsorship deal is only for the shirts however, with someone else lined up for the Fratton End.
The new kits can also be seen on the official site, and although it's hard to tell without seeing them "in the flesh" they don't look all that bad. Despite the fact the away kit is red with a yellow stripe, which sounds like it has the potential to be terrible.
The financial gains of the new deal come at an important time for the club as we look to move forward in the transfer market. You always know that once the club start talking about things in the media that the deal is starting to slip away and the only reason why we're mentioning it is to try and force the player in question into making a decision; the latest target in that respect is Andy O'Brien. Newcastle have given him "leave" to come and talk to us over a possible move South, and their fans are delighted due to his perceived lack of ability. But then again they said the same about Andy Griffin and he's practically first choice right back these days.
Still it's nice to know the club are weighing up their options and starting to "talk deal" with clubs and players; according to Perrin and Storrie there are at present five targets, including two foreign strikers as well as O'Brien and Robert (which leaves one other, maths fans). Hopefully when the transfer window opens up and we come back to pre-season training we'll have a nicely balanced squad rather than what we currently have, which is arguably the weakest in the division. But now isn't the time to panic - the window isn't even open yet.
