There's a big rebuilding task on this summer and despite already clinching the signatures of Andy O'Brien and Laurent Robert - as well as two anonymous targets to be announced in July, if reports are to be believed - there's no let-up for the trio of Perrin, Zajec and Storrie. As Peter Storrie himself has admitted to the Official Site, it's a very busy time and the common early June football conception of "holiday" seems a distant idea indeed.
After whispers for the last couple of weeks it's become concrete - we've put in a £2m bid for Genk midfielder Koen Daerden. He's a very highly rated youngster and, although keen on a move to the Premier League personally, Genk only appointed a new manager last week who has made it his number one priority to keep Daerden at the club, or at the very least secure a fair bit of cash for him. Indeed, some sources suggest that we're prepared to break our record transfer fee for the midfielder.
Speaking of midfielders, Jason Koumas is supposedly on the cards. A move that was suggested on this very site (parp parp, own trumpet time) a month or two back, the Welshman fell out of favour at West Brom after injury and inconsistent form. He's failed to live up to the potential he showed as a young lad at Tranmere Rovers but perhaps a move would put him back on the right track.
Had enough yet? Well there's more; Peter Storrie is currently in Stuttgart on "footballing matters" and claims he wants to tie up two more deals as soon as possible. Although a Croatian former Pompey defender by the name of Boris is currently plying his trade in the very same place, it is believed by some that he is talking to Basinas, as Greece are currently playing a tournament in Germany. Basinas eh? And there you were thinking that that deal had died a death.
Not ONLY that but apparently Nigerian left back Ifeanyi Udeze, currently playing for PAOK in Greece and formerly of West Brom, is linked with us in a £1m move. You might remember him as the fast one who loves bombing forward rather than actually defending, although his real claim to fame is that he was once substituted after 25 minutes because he argued over the award of a throw-in rather than actually trying to defend it - whilst the opposition (Southampton, as it happens) got on with the game and scored.
And "hilarious rumour of the day" goes to the Southampton fan who reckoned that we'd be swapping Dio Kamara for Kevin Phillips. Ricardo Fuller and a packet of cheesy Wotsits, perhaps, but I can't see our record signing going down the coast after having only one season to endear himself, and having done quite a good job of it.
